Universal Bias-Tee Overview

The mAT-4117 is a universal Bias-Tee designed to combine a DC power supply and an RF signal onto a single coaxial cable, or to separate them from a single coaxial cable. When using it to control RF devices such as tuners, it eliminates the need for a separate power cable, thereby simplifying your setup.

General Compatibility

The mAT-4117 is compatible with any remote antenna tuner equipped with a built-in Bias-Tee, not limited to mAT products. Some mAT tuners come with a built-in Bias-Tee, and you can operate them directly with the mAT-4117. Additionally, you can use the mAT-4117 with other tuners that have a built-in Bias-Tee, even if they are not mAT products.

The mAT-4117 can provide a DC power supply of up to 50 V to other devices and can carry a maximum current of 1 A. This makes it suitable for a wide range of remote antenna tuners and other RF devices requiring DC power injection over coaxial cables.

RF Isolation Performance

RF Isolation Measurement for mAT-4117

Test Method 1: RF Isolation Curve Measurement

Inject a 0 dBm RF carrier signal (frequency range: 1-30 MHz) into the RF channel, then measure the RF carrier signal strength at the DC power port. The measured RF signal strength at the DC power port across the 1 to 30 MHz frequency range shows peak signal level reaches -67 dBm at approximately 15 MHz, while the minimum level is -80 dBm. This demonstrates highly favorable performance.

Test Method 2: High-Power RF Isolation Measurement

Measurements were conducted at various frequencies and power levels up to 1000W. The results consistently show RF isolation exceeding 65 dB across the entire frequency range.

1800 KHz Test
1800 KHz, 400W input: RF isolation = 80.78 dB
3900 KHz Test
3900 KHz, 700W input: RF isolation = 78.45 dB
7230 KHz Test
7230 KHz, 1000W input: RF isolation = 77.01 dB
14185 KHz Test
14185 KHz, 900W input: RF isolation = 69.4 dB
28000 KHz Test
28000 KHz, 650W input: RF isolation = 78.1 dB

Conclusion: Both measurement methods confirm that the RF isolation of the mAT-4117 exceeds -65 dB, demonstrating highly competitive performance. The mAT-4117 employs a two-stage filter to achieve very high RF isolation, making it an excellent choice for remote antenna tuner applications where RF leakage into the DC power line must be minimized.

Important Note

Warning

The "RF&DC" coaxial connector on the mAT-4117 outputs both RF and DC power. It is intended to connect to the RF and DC input connector of a remote antenna tuner.

Do not connect any equipment or component that causes a DC short circuit between the center conductor and the shield of the "RF&DC" connector—such as SWR meters, voltage baluns, or similar devices—as this may damage the bias circuit of the mAT-4117.

Applications

  • Powering remote antenna tuners (compatible with any brand with built-in Bias-Tee)
  • Eliminating separate power cables for remote RF devices
  • Simplifying installation of remote antenna systems
  • Providing DC power to amplifiers, preamplifiers, or other RF devices
  • Can be used in pairs to inject/extract DC power for devices without built-in Bias-Tee

The mAT-4117 Bias-Tee offers a versatile solution for amateur radio operators and professionals who need to power remote RF devices without running separate power cables. Its excellent RF isolation ensures minimal interference, while its wide compatibility makes it suitable for use with various equipment brands and models.
